Weather Forecast - Writing Practice - Future Forms

Updated: Jul 21, 2020

Before you do this activity, read our post 'What's the weather like?'

It includes lots of vocabulary which will help you with your writing.

The weather forecast tells us a prediction for the weather in the future. We can watch the weather forecast on television or find it on a weather app/on the internet.

Look at the pictures which show the weather forecast for three different days:

When talking about the future, there are different forms we can use, like 'will', 'going to', or the present continuous. We use these forms in different ways.

When we're talking about the future weather, we can use 'going to' or 'will'.

Often, we use 'going to' when we have evidence.

e.g. "Look at those big grey clouds! I think It's going to rain." The clouds are the evidence and it's very likely that it's going to rain.

We often use 'will' for simple predictions.

e.g. "The weather forecast says it will be sunny tonight'.

So, weather forecasters (people who predict the weather) use both.

Your writing challenge for today:

Look at the pictures and write the weather forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Use the vocabulary from this post.

Good Luck!
